This 37-year-old former PSA No. 7 and British No. 1 has a game which, like the man himself, is built along the clean and classic lines of the consummate professional he personifies, as witness his five-year (2002-07) Presidency of the PSA (he is still a Board member) and four-year captaincy of the British national squads that won five European team crowns and the World Team Championships as well. Chaloner captured the ’01 Cambridge Club Doubles with Gary Waite as his partner (thrashing Dean Brown and Jonathon Power in the final) and partnered Michael Pirnak to the final of the same event (which had at the time was a “special event” under whose format PSA players were matched with ISDA partners) a year later before they lost to Waite and Stewart Boswell. After retiring from singles play a few years ago, Chaloner spent most of a frustrating 2007-08 season in which he and Pirnak were  constantly stymied in the quarters, but a “rebound” 2007-08 campaign featured (in addition to a final-round Pittsburgh Challenger finish with James Hewitt) two semifinal appearances (in St. Louis and Brooklyn) for Chaloner and new partner Willie Hosey, three wins over top-four teams (two over Matt Jenson/Clive Leach and one over John Russell/Preston Quick), a perfect 6-0 record in round-of-16 matches and a renewed standing and ascendant momentum for this tandem of decorated veterans heading into the upcoming campaign.
