This diminutive but dynamic Ireland native continues to demonstrate a combination of longevity --- at age 48, he is by eight years the oldest player ranked in the top 10 --- and especially versatility the likes of which has never been seen perhaps in the history of North American squash. He has enjoyed significant success as both a club pro and in his current managerial position as squash director of the four Mayfair Clubs in Toronto; as a singles player in both the hardball (finalist in the ’03 World Hardball Championships) and the international game (record 10-time Irish Nationals winner, ’01 British Open 40’s champion and ranked as high as No. 17 on the PSA circuit, the only current ISDA top-10 other than Paul Price to have ever also cracked the PSA top-20); and as an ISDA doubles player, where he has partnered no fewer than five players (namely Jamie Bentley, Viktor Berg, Clive Leach, Michael Pirnak and Blair Horler) to the No. 2 team ranking. In the process Hosey has reached a total of 43 ISDA finals, winning four of them, a figure that would have been much higher were it not for the dominance that the Gary Waite/Damien Mudge duo displayed during the first eight years of the ISDA’s existence. In playing with no fewer than ELEVEN different partners in the 12-month period from February ’07 to January ’08 and moving effortlessly from one wall to the other on a virtually week to week basis, Hosey showed the adaptability and agelessness that have made him one of the most popular protagonists in the game.
