This superbly-proportioned Australian superstar who has been based for more than a decade at the University Club of New York is statistically the ISDA’s “all-time leading scorer,” having won more titles (91) and been on more teams that earned the No. 1 end-of-season ranking (nine, the first seven on the right wall with Gary Waite, the last two on the left wall with Viktor Berg) than anyone else in the history of the Association, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of its formation this month (i.e. January 2010). Mudge and the now-retired Waite, who went undefeated throughout the 1999-2000, 2001-02 and 2004-05 seasons, hold every significant record in doubles squash, in most cases by vast margins, and are universally viewed as the greatest doubles team of all time, which emphatically spotlights Mudge’s achievement in double-switching (both partner and wall position) and earning the No. 1 ranking (in both cases when he and Berg beat Paul Price and Ben Gould in their determinative final meeting of the season) in each of the next two years. A member of the Australian squad in the World Junior Championships during the early 1990’s, Mudge has weathered a variety of physical mishaps over the years (including a bout with chronic-fatigue syndrome, several concussions, two wrist surgeries and a severe knee injury just last winter), in each case returning to peak form and resuming his intimidating assault on the record books.
