The only Canadian ranked in the ISDA top-eight has perhaps the tour’s most charismatic and effervescent personality, both on and off the court, which has made him highly popular both with the galleries and among his ISDA peers. In both of his prior two seasons as Damien Mudge’s right-wall partner, they started slowly, going winless in the first five tournaments in 2007-08 and in the first three events in 2008-09, then caught fire right around Thanksgiving, winning eight of the last 10 events in 2007-08 and six of the last eight in last season while reaching all 18 of those combined finals and in each case edging out their main adversaries, Paul Price and Ben Gould, for the season-end No. 1 team ranking. Berg, whose singles career includes the gold medal he won in the Pan Am Games a few years ago, now has a total of 25 ISDA tournament titles on his resume, namely the 16 he has won with Mudge, as well as five with Gary Waite, two with Chris Walker and one each with Michael Pirnak and Josh McDonald. The Vancouver native (who moved back there some years ago after spending most of the early-2000’s period in Toronto) teamed up with Jessie Chai to capture the ’03 U. S. Mixed Doubles and the ’04 World Mixed Doubles, in each case while playing the left wall.
