The highest-ranked among European-born playerson the ISDA tour, this former British Junior No. l based at the New YorkAthletic Club for the past four years recorded his second ISDA title thispast November when he and Viktor Berg triumphed in Toronto in the CambridgeClub Doubles in a back-and-forth final against Matt Jenson and Preston Quickin which first-time-ever partners Russell and Berg led 2-0, 8-3, thentrailed 6-2 in the fifth before a 9-0 run brought them to an eventual 15-12victory. Russell’s prior tournament win had occurred at the 2007 U. S.National Doubles, when he and Quick prevailed over Clive Leach and ScottButcher in a straight-set final. Finalists last season in Greenwich (via afifth-game 5-2 tiebreaker session against Paul Price and Ben Gould) and LongIsland and this season in Baltimore, Russell and Quick have reached at leastthe semis of 29 of the 33 events they have entered over the past three and ahalf seasons, evincing a level of reliable proficiency that causes them toalmost be taken for granted.
