The youngest top-20 player by a substantial margin, this 22-year-old Indian native and 2009 Trinity College co-captain is also by an even bigger margin the tour’s biggest “mover” so far this season, having improved his No. 35 2009-10 end-of-season ranking no fewer than 18 slots to his current No. 17 standing by virtue of his and partner Yvain Badan’s final-round finish in St. Louis in their debut performance as partners; their run to the title in the Buffalo Challenger; and their pair of successful qualifying efforts in New York and Philadelphia. A former junior No. 2 in India who played on his country’s national junior team in the World Junior Team Championships in 2006, this slender and soft-spoken southpaw with a lethal front-court game (especially his forehand drives cross-court into the front-right nick) sustained a potentially serious injury in late September when his hand was cut nearly to the bone by broken glass, but after missing the first few events while the wound healed, he has burst onto the ISDA scene with a vengeance and figures to be a major factor on the tour for many years to come.
