This lanky, fun-loving, power-hitting Australian red head had a pair of career-best performances last February when he teamed up for the first time with Whitten Morris in Brooklyn and survived two rivetingly-close matches en route to earning a spot in the quarterfinals. In the last round of the qualifying, they trailed Andrew Merrill and Hamed Anvari 14-11 in the fifth before running off six straight points for a 17-14 victory; just a few hours later, they amassed a 2-1, 9-2 advantage over Eric Vlcek and Yvain Badan, a “hot” team at the time, and were able to hold on (albeit barely) in that 15-13 close-out game. This result followed by several weeks Coleman’s advance with his regular partner (and pro-shop colleague at the Cynwyd Club in suburban Philadelphia, whose squash program Coleman has headed for the past four years) Gavin Jones to the final round of the Philadelphia Racquet Club Challenger event, where they defeated the Tom Harrity/Jacques Swanepoel and Rob Whitehouse/Greg Park pairings before barely (17-16 in the fourth) falling short against top seeds Willie Hosey and James Hewitt.
